“I Still Love You” And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. —Romans 8:38

It started as an emotional and mental breakdown. I could sob or become agitated by the slightest provocation, and I felt physically ill. Doctors’ visits couldn’t determine any specific physical problem. The condition stabilized in a few weeks; still, it took all my resources to retain my job, which was needed to keep our family of six financially afloat. I surrendered all other obligations including my church activities. Lying in bed sobbing one evening, I inwardly evaluated my existence. I barely met our family’s financial needs, I’d suffered a job setback, our car and house were sub-standard compared to others, I was ashamed of my radical behavior, and now I’d vacated my church activities. One by one I confessed my failures to God, including how I had failed Him. In that moment of silence, my heart and mind received His answer: “I still love you.” That unexpected reply to my personal evaluation not only surprised me; it started my recovery and has since reminded me that God’s love isn’t

based on my earthly performance.

God’s love is rooted in who we are, not in what we do. — Steven Thompson —
