Lessons From Big Bird He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. —Philippians 2:8

My attorney father donned a large garbage bag covered in bright yellow crepe paper streamers. He strapped on a poster board beak and headpiece, and then slid into leggings and scuba flippers. With plastic jack-o-lantern in hand and grandchildren in tow, he set out to greet the neighbors with an energetic “Trick or treat!” What would possess a grown man to dress like Big Bird and walk around in public? Not just anybody would, or could, parade around garbed in a bird costume. Daddy’s love for his grandchildren outweighed the potential embarrassment. He humbled himself and entered their world; he became as a child. While Jesus didn’t dress like Big Bird, He did humble himself when He became one of us. He put on the trappings of humankind so He could fashion an eternal relationship with His children. With me. To some this sounds preposterous, but it is awesome. He entered my world.

Entering someone else’s world is sometimes awkward, but the results can be eternal. — Sharron K. Cosby —
