Teach Them Their Father Loves Them But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. . . . And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren. —Deuteronomy 4:9
When I was a girl, my mama must have told me a million times, “Remember: Jesus loves you and so do I.” She called it to me as I climbed on the school bus. She whispered it to me when she tucked me in bed. When I was a teenager, she’d leave those words taped to my bathroom mirror, usually when I needed them most. No matter how many dumb mistakes I made, no matter how many times I disappointed my parents, I knew one thing. I was loved by them. And I was loved by God. Last week, my twelve-year-old son got his own email address. “Send me an email, Mom. Here’s my address.” Not sure what to write to the gangly, half-grown kid doing his homework in the next room, I remembered Mama’s words and composed this note, “Hey, Hewson! It’s Mom. Remember: God loves you and so do I.”
If our children and others don’t learn the love of the Lord from us, where will they learn it? — Mimi Greenwood Knight —
