God’s Blanket of Protection Answer me when I call to you, O God who declares me innocent. Free me from my troubles. Have mercy on me and hear my prayer. —Psalm 4:1

I left my home at 5 p.m., forgetting my winter coat. I thought, I’ll be home in a couple of hours, I’ll survive. At 8:30 p.m. I stepped into six inches of icy white powder in toeless, backless shoes. I was coatless, and wet snow pouring from the sky soaked my hair as I scraped ice and snow off all four sides of my car. My car started and inched forward on slippery roads. The gas gauge registered dangerously close to empty. Praise and worship music blasted from my radio. All around me, semitrucks, cars, SUVs, and police cars with lights flashing sat sideways and backwards in ditches. The heavy snowfall blew across the road, blinding my vision. “God, please help me get home,” I prayed. I broke free of the maze of stalled and stuck cars, continuing my glacial, ten-mile-per-hour crawl across slick, snow-packed roads. Two hours later, I pulled into my driveway and thanked God for His protection and safe passage home. Then I waded in ankle-deep snow to the warmth of my house.

When our cars—and our emotions—slip and slide, we can trust God to lead us home. — Scoti Springfield Domeij —
