The Blessing of Friends God has made everything beautiful for its own time. —Ecclesiastes 3:11
There are certainly prettier gardens than mine in the world. It’s scraggly in places where plants are just getting established, and it’s a little lopsided in areas too. But if you look closer, you’ll notice something else. Under each cluster of plants is a hand-painted sign. The signs read Melissa, Karen, JoAnn, Denise, Jane, Paula, Sandra, Cheryl, and more. This is my Girlfriend Garden. You see, each plant in it began as a clipping from a friend’s yard. So my garden isn’t just made up of flowers I love, but also the plants my friends think are special—plants they’ve tended and grown themselves and are now sharing with me. When I stop to admire my garden, I’m overwhelmed by the blessing of good friends. I visualize the yard each plant came from and the friend who dug it up to share it with me. What a lavish blessing from God our friends are!
Friends and flowers are two of God’s most extravagant blessings. Nurture
both. — Mimi Greenwood Knight —
