Investing in Love You will always harvest what you plant. —Galatians 6:7
I found her on the porch one summer morning, hair matted, thin, and eyes clouded. I recognized that someone had discarded the half-grown pup and warned my wife that if she fed the dog, it would stay. My good-hearted wife fed the starved dog anyway, and soon Apples became a part of our family. We built a pen, got a doghouse, and nurtured her back to health. Our children groomed, walked, and played with her, and she blessed our lives for fourteen years. Why had our family fallen in love with this discarded mutt? It resulted from investing time, energy, and resources in providing for Apples. Often we feel that love results from others caring or providing for us, but our deepest emotional ties usually result from our investment in others. When someone says they’ve quit loving another, I often sense that the lack of love results from failing to invest in the life of that individual. When we invest patience and kindness and dispel our anger and judgments in relationships, we then find an emotional bond springs forth.
Like most business transactions, love has to be invested in before we will discover a payoff. — Steven Thompson —
