Welcome Home, Aunt Dorothy! Jesus repeated the question: “ Simon son of John, do you love me?” “ Yes, Lord,” Peter said, “ you know I love you.” “ Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said. —John 21:16
Baa!” I heard one of Jesus’s lost sheep calling to me. It was my Aunt Dorothy after her husband of fifty years passed away. She really was lost, having no children of her own and nowhere to go. The more my husband and I thought it over, the more we knew we should take her in. It helped that Aunt Dorothy was so easy to get along with, but it was still a little scary knowing she would be with us all the time! I have to admit, I was sorry to see my living room furnishings given away or stored, and the guest bathroom taken over with pharmaceuticals. Then I thought about Jesus’s command to Peter. He said three times to take care of His sheep if we love Him! It’s been nearly four months, and what a blessing Aunt Dorothy is. She is a sweet, always cheerful presence in our home, and a godly example of faith through difficult times. I don’t know who received the bigger blessing here, Aunt Dorothy or our family.
