March 30

Love in the Buttercups The flowers are springing up, the season of singing birds has come, and the cooing of turtledoves fills the air. —Song of Songs 2:12

Poet Eugene Field wrote, “Buttercup shareth the joy of day, Glinting with gold the hours of play.” The calendar may say spring, but the indicator that causes my heart to skip a beat is my first sighting of a buttercup. It is sunny confirmation that winter’s snowy wraps will soon be packed away in exchange for yellow-green leaves and the scent of freshly turned earth. When God presented the rainbowed promise to Noah to never destroy the earth by flood, He was compelled by a divine love for His creation. His reign over the world is fair and He will fully restore it at just the right time. Whenever the seasons begin to change, I remember that the everlasting God who spoke to Noah, visited Abraham, dwelled with Moses, and lived a lifetime in the person of Jesus Christ is loving His creation in winter, spring, summer, and fall. I find comfort and confidence in God’s abiding love that is constant even in the phases of the moon and in the buttercups of spring.

Whenever you enter a season of change, remember to look to the God of Creation who loves you in and out of season. — Alyssa Santos —
