A Confident Love I am very happy now because I have complete confidence in you. —2 Corinthians 7:16
The apostle Paul encouraged those he touched by believing in them. He understood that sometimes when a word of prayer doesn’t seem to help, a word of encouragement from the Lord does. When Brian entered my office, I sensed immediately that he was a man who had been down on his luck. Released from prison that day with only twenty dollars in his pocket, he slumped in the chair adjacent to my desk, discouraged and down-trodden. He spoke eloquently, apologetically, but seldom lifted his eyes. Brian had stolen some cars to get by, and the law caught up with him. Even though he asked me for money, I knew he needed something money could not buy—confidence. I told Brian that I saw something in him: a spark he had yet to ignite. He only needed to believe in himself as God loved and believed in him. He wept, and then left. Several months later, Brian returned wearing a new suit and walking tall. All because someone shared God’s love and confidence in him.
Because of God’s confidence in us, we can love others confidently. — Jim Zabloski —
