What Can I Do for You? If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. —Matthew 7:11

With Jesus inside me, I try to help others. But sometimes I find it hard to ask for the help I myself need. One day, I sat in church needing advice, but I could not bring myself to directly ask anyone for it. Suddenly, the priest I spoke to asked, “What can I do for you?” I felt the door open for me to describe my struggle. He then spent time and energy to offer practical guidance and names of several people to contact who could help me further. That was a true moment of grace for me. I knew the Lord had heard my heart’s groanings. The Lord then called me to do this for others. I have prayed to be bold enough to say, “What can I do for you?” Sometimes I can be that open, even while knowing that what the person really needs may be very difficult for me to give. I never forget how much this caring question helped me.

A true gift is providing what someone really needs. Don’t hesitate to ask others how you can help. — Jane M. Abeln —
