Impulse Spending If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. —Romans 12:8

Late Saturday afternoon, as I filled my car with gas, I noticed a garbage truck filling up on the other side of the station. Three men standing behind it shrugged out of green jumpsuits and washed off their hands and faces. I finished before they did, so I decided to add a little excitement to their day. Driving over to the truck, I spoke to the man closest to me. “Do you gentlemen work on this truck?” Cautiously, the man nodded his head. The other two men watched our conversation, both faces wary. They had no reason to expect anything other than a complaint. I pulled some money out of my wallet. As I handed each of the men a five-dollar bill, I said, “Thanks for doing such a good job keeping our city clean. Have a hamburger on me.” I looked in my rearview mirror as I drove off. They were staring at each other in confusion, wondering what had just happened.
