Spiritual Intercession For God has not given us a spirit of fear. —2 Timothy 1:7
Something’s wrong with Janet,” I said to myself as I climbed out of bed on a summer night at the campground where my husband and I worked. We lived a hundred miles away from our grown daughter, Janet. She hadn’t called, but I knew something was not right. I dressed and paced under the stars, begging God to protect my daughter from unknown danger. Finally, finding peace, I returned to bed. Early in the morning, the phone rang. Someone had attacked Janet the night before, but she was able to get away unharmed. I prayed with her, thankful I had been awakened to intercede. She reminded me that years earlier, I had put Bible verses in her lunches to memorize. As she struggled through what had happened, she was strengthened by 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear.” “Mom,” she said, “I remembered that Scripture, and it helps me not to be afraid now.”
God’s love intercedes for us even as a mother intercedes for her child. — Pat Miller —
