You Let Me Dance But Peter said, “ I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” —Acts 3:6
I’d been trained as a social worker, so what was I doing working in a financial organization? How could I fit into this world and make a difference? The answer came one morning when my friend at work, Gina, gave me a beautifully wrapped gift. Inside was a snow globe music box containing a ballerina. I shook the globe, and snow fell gently around the ballerina to the music of Swan Lake. The thoughtful gift touched me, but why did Gina think of me when she bought it? “This is how you make me feel,” Gina explained. “When we work together, you listen and encourage me to be myself. You never try to change me.” She paused, then whispered, “You let me dance.” In that moment, I realized God never expected me to give what I didn’t possess or couldn’t do. He only wanted me to pass along those gifts He showered on me—gifts like love, encouragement, comfort, or a listening ear.
Giving only what we’ve been given—God’s love—lets others dance their own Swan Lake. — Gloria Ashby —
