Life Is a Beach The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. —Psalm 121:5
When the going gets rough, I mentally go to the beach. Nearly every summer, my husband’s family gathers for a week on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I love feeling warm sand, watching sand crabs scurry, and listening to ocean waves. The first year, I wondered why the family lugged so much gear—especially a huge, clunky umbrella—from the house to the beach. But I quickly learned how hot the sand becomes to walk on, and how quickly a flaming summer sun roasts skin. I gratefully ran for that protective shade. At other times, the umbrella shielded us from stinging sand the wind spat at us. The umbrella protected us from harsh realities of life on the beach. Do you ever feel like your life is a dance on broiling sand? Or that you’re being burned or stung by the elements? Let God and His love be your shade, your protection from the harsh realities of the elements of life.
