He Will Lift You Up So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. —1 Peter 5:6
I always loved the movie Chariots of Fire and the story of Eric Liddell, the sprinter from Scotland who ran in the 1924 Olympics. He won a medal for his efforts, and many said his run was the “jewel of the games that year.” Some great quotes came out of that movie. One of them happened when he explained to his sister why he had to run. Because the qualifying heats for his best event, the 100-meter sprint, were held on a Sunday, he refused to participate. But he still wanted to run. He told his sister, “When I run, I feel [God’s] pleasure.” When he finally ran in the 400-meter race, an event he did not excel at, one of the contestants passed him a little piece of paper. On it was written, “He who honors me, I will honor” (see 1 Samuel 2:30). Liddell went on to win. God honored him as he had honored God.
