Love Never Lets Go We know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. —Romans 5:5
Send him to a boys’ home,” family members demanded. I stood firm. No! A mother does not give up on her son! Yes, he arrived as a troubled child at four months old when my husband and I adopted him. He wouldn’t eat and was a stiff baby—wouldn’t relax in our arms. As he grew, he agitated kids and adults. One offended church worker said, “He is the worst child I’ve ever had.” He made our dogs yelp and threw rocks at children. He burned his sister’s treasured dried flowers. His school recommended him for a behaviorally disordered class. Sure I cried over him. I yelled at him at times. But the minute we adopted him, God showered—more like pelted—my heart with His love for this precious new life. It was a love that refused to die through many long years of turmoil. Today, my son, a responsible adult, calls his growing-up years his “dark days,” and ends our phone calls with, “Love ya.”
When God’s love saturates our hearts, we can stand firm for others. — Peggy Halter Morris —
