Waiting on God’s Promises The Lord . . . did exactly what he had promised. —Genesis 21:1

Mommy, you promised we could go to the park. When? Let’s go!” My son isn’t patient when I’ve promised to do something. He wants my promises fulfilled immediately. So sometimes he learns about waiting. Abraham was one of those in the Bible who had to wait. God had promised him a son, but years passed and he and Sarah were still childless. Finally, Abraham tried to force God’s promises to come true —he impregnated his wife’s maid, planning that he and his wife could raise the child. What a mess that ended up to be! When God’s promises did come true, and Abraham’s legitimate, promised son was born, a legendary clash began—one that some theologians believe was the beginning of the Arab and Israeli conflict today. Waiting on God is tough. But it’s necessary to keep believing He’ll do what He promises, and since He loves us, His timing is perfect.

When we’re waiting on God, we have to trust that His timing is perfect! — Jenni Davenport —
