The Blessings of Expressing Love This is my command: Love each other. —John 15:17

I rang the doorbell of my elderly friend and I heard her say from behind the door, “Come on in.” So I entered and saw her smiling face as she wheeled across the floor in her motorized chair. “How are you doing?” I asked. “I’m taking one day at a time. God is so good to me,” she replied. As we talked, I noticed she was as concerned about my struggles as I was about hers. Each of us shared how hard life was at times in our own particular situations, and our bond in Christ deepened. After more than two hours of conversation, we prayed for each other and bid our farewell. We each committed to pray for each other’s concerns and to pray that we would remain steadfast in trusting God to provide strength to cope with life. As I walked to my car, I thought of how, in my effort to show love toward my friend, she had expressed love toward me. In my attempt to bless another, I was blessed as well.

As we show others our love, sometimes we also receive love in return. — Michael K. Farrar —
