Not Another Refugee! Blessed are those who help the poor. —Proverbs 14:21

The night my husband brought Mike home with him to eat dinner, I knew Mike was just another con artist, and I refused to accept him. I said, “Never again! No more refugees!” Mike had used heavy drugs and had lived under a bridge for months before straightening up enough to find work. My husband had a penchant for taking on those who were down on their luck, and soon he persuaded me to take Mike to a Bible conference with us. After one of the teaching sessions, I looked over at Mike. He just sat there with tears in his eyes. “Why hasn’t anyone ever told me about this before?” he asked. Putting aside my judgmental spirit, I allowed God’s unconditional love for Mike to fill me and flood over me and through me. Before long, we had a new son in the Lord. What a blessing I would have missed if I hadn’t allowed God to pour out His love through me.

God’s unconditional love often sneaks up on us when we least expect it! — Ann Varnum —
