Always Watching The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. —Psalm 121:7
I sat in the ER cubicle, my chair pulled as close as possible to my six-year-old’s inert form on the bed. I stroked the blond hair away from her face and watched as her tiny body—aided by IV fluids—fought the high fever. It was the third ER visit of her young life. Over the past thirteen years, I have spent hours upon hours in ERs and hospital rooms. A son born with a heart problem, then facing injuries and accidental poisoning when he was a toddler. A stepdaughter with a staph infection and allergic reaction. A husband with heart issues and chronic kidney stones. An elderly father with a disintegrating body. A stepmother with gall stones and infections. By now I know the routines almost as well as the nurses. Scripture tells us that God watches over us. I picture Him watching over us as I watch over my loved ones in the ER— anticipating their needs and making sure they’re okay. He watches, and waits, and steps in when He needs to. Because we’re precious to Him.
God’s watch care is active—ready to spring to meet our needs at any time. — Jeanette Gardner Littleton —
