A Better Way You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don’t let anyone disregard what you say. —Titus 2:15

It was one of those times when the church was up in arms. Some supported the new pastor’s plan of action for building on to the church. Others thought it was foolhardy. The business meeting where it was being discussed was falling apart, though, until the youth pastor stood up and said, “Look, these options are all good ideas. Why don’t we come up with a list of pluses and minuses about each one, and then vote on them. One at a time.” Someone said, “Here, here,” but others resisted. We talked more, but the youth pastor stood his ground. “I’ve done this with the youth many times,” he said. “It’s simple. Just divide the paper in half. Write the proposition at the top, and then put the pluses on one side, and the negatives on the other.” Some people grumbled but finally everyone started cooperating. And together they solved the problem.

When you have some authority, use it to promote love, respect, and cooperation. — Gene Farmer —
