From Friends to Family There are “ friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. —Proverbs 18:24
Mike! Wayne! Bernice!” The room was filled with people—some I hadn’t seen for more than twenty years. But the warmth and love permeated the atmosphere as we all caught up on each others’ lives. We instantly picked up right where we’d left off so many years before. It wasn’t a high school reunion—I hadn’t had a thing to talk about to people at those. Instead, it was a gathering of people who’d worked together as staff in a youth ministry organization decades earlier. When one of the men, George, and I talked about the odd family feeling we all had, he offered this insight: “I think it’s because we all worked together on so many projects. Even though over a hundred people worked in different areas, when something needed to be done, all the departments worked together. The weekly youth rallies, the fund-raisers, the prayer meetings . . . we all spent all those hours together working on common goals. And that’s what builds relationships that last.”
When we get involved in projects with others, we’re bound to find friends that turn into family. — Jenni Davenport —
