Warm Feet If you are wise . . . prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. —James 3:13

One rainy April day I had to do a follow-up visit on a child living in a migrant camp who had tested positive for TB. The children don’t even have shoes, I noted sadly. After dinner that evening, I described my visit to my dad, who had been a J.C. Penney Company shoe salesman. “No shoes?” Dad said. “When do you go out next? I’ll get some shoes for you to take to those kids.” At my next visit to that camp, I carried six shoe boxes along with my nursing bag. The children’s moms helped me to match shoe sizes with feet. It was raining as I left. Would the kids walk in the mud puddles wearing their new shoes? “Jose!” one mom called. With my limited Spanish I only caught the word for shoe as a little fellow hurried to his mom and disappeared into his cabin. His feet stayed warm and dry in those new shoes.

When we hear of needs and try to meet them with the resources we have, we love wisely. — Julia D. Emblen —
