Late for an Important Date Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. —Hebrews 13:4

I was late for my Valentine’s Day date with my wife, losing track of time as I was immersed in a writing deadline. I hurried to the car and went a notch over the speed limit as she waited by herself at the restaurant. Would she be a bit peeved with me for not being prompt on this most romantic of occasions? I spotted her at a table, my Irish wife’s green eyes already glued to mine, two bright emeralds over a wide smile. She proudly told the waitress, “This is my Valentine!” I added that she made the choice to first be my Valentine thirty-five years ago, but I better keep my act together. Anniversaries mark the duration of years spent together, but Valentine’s Day for married couples poses a challenge—do we still love each other deeply and do we show it? I quietly promised myself I would do better next year, feeling undeserving of this priceless treasure with the emerald eyes.

Valentine’s Day is a day to be expressive and grateful to the one you love.
