December 25

Still Seeking Him They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. —Matthew 2:11

I looked at the tree that had been surrounded by presents an hour or so earlier. I knew I needed to work on the traditional meal, but I was too exhausted to get up. Christmas is my favorite time of the year, but it can be so tiring. Seeing Christmas lights, decorating, attending programs, watching traditional movies, making cookies, finding gifts. Amid the hustle, it can be hard to really find Jesus. Maybe that’s why I connect with the wise men so well. We don’t know much about the wise men. We don’t really know where they were from or exactly who they were. We do know it wasn’t convenient for them to hunt down Jesus. They had to follow a star and ask for directions. It cost them time and money. And they had to go out of their comfort zones to find Christ. Sometimes worshiping Christ is not convenient for us. With rising gas prices, it costs money to attend church activities. Worshiping Christ may cost us someone’s approval. Sometimes our circumstances are not convenient, and worshiping God may mean leaving our comfort zones.

But whenever we get up and get out to worship Christ, we will find Him and be rewarded.

Searching for God is not always easy, but when we seek Him, we’ll find Him—at Christmas and any other day of the year. — Jenni Davenport —
