No More Holiday Grumbling Do everything without complaining and arguing. —Philippians 2:14

Precious time slipped away as I inched along the snowy streets. I’d never get to the supermarket with all this holiday traffic. I felt like canceling my Christmas party. Company coming, and me not ready! Grumbling, I snagged the last cart and frowned when I saw the mobs at the deli. And it was no better at the seafood counter. A quick grab for the last item and I raced for the checkout. Thank heaven for the express line! There was only one person in front of me, a woman in a wheelchair. Her blue eyes danced merrily as she chatted with the cashier about her party —which was also starting in a couple of hours. “Merry Christmas!” she called with a bright smile as she rolled away. She was the perfect example of a cheerful hostess! Challenging circumstances and last-minute errands wouldn’t interfere with this woman’s gracious hospitality. What a timely reminder! My mind was set . . . no more grumbling for me. I left the store looking forward to a great time with my guests that night.

Hospitality doesn’t have to be perfect, just heartfelt. — Susan A. Karas —
