Exposing Evil Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. —Ephesians 5:10–11
My friend, whom I’d led to the Lord months before, suffered a relapse. He sat in a bar drinking his life away once again. His wife called me and told me what was going on. I drove down to the bar and stepped in. “Hey!” Seth cried as I walked in. I sat next to him at the bar. “What are you doing, Seth?” I asked fiercely. He said, “Sit up, I’ll buy you a drink.” “I don’t want a drink,” I retorted. “I want you out of here and back to what you have become.” “Aw, come on. It’s just a little drink.” “For you, no. You can’t have ‘just a little drink,’ because it strings itself into many drinks, until it’s your whole life, Seth.” His eyes fell. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” I led him out of there and he got his act back together. Stepping in to stop evil is the most loving thing many of us can do—wherever we find it, wherever we see it, even if it will arouse anger.
Expose evil when you have to, even fiercely, for it is speaking the truth in love. — Jerry Hamilton —
