No Job Too Small And the King will say, “ I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!” —Matthew 25:40

You won’t want to clean for others when you’re older,” my mother told me long ago. But now, years later, that’s exactly what I’m doing. With long, tedious hours of sweeping, scrubbing, washing, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing, my cleaning business isn’t glamorous by any means. But it’s given me unique opportunities to step into the lives of others and become the hands and feet of Jesus to lonely seniors, weary parents, and busy teachers. For example, I’ve met Mrs. Spencer, discouraged and struggling with cancer. While I’m on my knees scrubbing her floors, we often have deep, meaningful visits that bring a smile to her face. Then there is Mr. Bennett, a grieving widower. While I clean his house, he reminisces about his wife with me—sometimes through laughter, sometimes through tears. Cleaning for him has allowed me to walk through the grieving process with him as a friend and see Jesus’s thankful eyes shine out through his. Cleaning other people’s messes can be difficult at times. And

it’s true; I don’t always feel like doing it. But God has shown me that no job is insignificant when done in His name.

When we serve others, it’s often as if we’re serving God directly. — Angela Deal —
