Called to Cross the Aisle Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! —Hebrews 13:2
Shy. Another word for uncomfortable. I’m always shy about approaching people I don’t know. But now I understand—love is uncomfortable sometimes. From what seemed like a block away in the huge discount store, I saw Dad in the vegetable section, bent almost double, his magnifying glass pressed against the cans on the bottom shelf. From across the aisle, a young woman approached him. They exchanged a few words, then she stooped, picked up a can, and handed it to Dad. I was close enough to hear him thank her. “I really appreciate it! I need the kind without salt, but I’m lucky if I just get green beans instead of peas.” God took care of Dad. Again and again, He sent people to him who didn’t hesitate to approach an elderly man with poor eyesight. God’s tender love for Dad, yes; but also, I realized, His tender love for me, expressed in the generous actions of people I didn’t know. I’m still shy, but now when God calls me to cross the aisle, I go.
Sometimes love is as close as opening our eyes. — Kathleen Brown —
