You’re Someone Special But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. —1 Corinthians 12:18
My friend Frank wailed, “I’m just such a loser. I have nothing to give. All I do is take, and that gets me nowhere.” I felt for him. He was an alcoholic, and his wife, a member of our church, had asked me to pray for him many times. Besides praying for him, I’d befriended him. But this was the first time he was serious about faith. I asked, “What do you want, Frank?” “I want God. But I don’t think He wants me. There is nothing about me that is positive or good or desirable.” It was difficult persuading him that God actually loved him. Frank finally decided to accept Christ. I began to see the transformation in the way he felt about himself. After a while, he came to me and offered, “I can’t do much, Clay, but I’m good at cleaning and fixing things. Do you need any of that? Can I help the church in that way?” I told him yes, and pointed out that maybe he had the gift of helps. He asked, “What’s that?” I explained how God gave all His people spiritual gifts and
talents. He was so excited, he cried, “Maybe God can use me. Maybe He did love me enough to give me abilities! Maybe I do have something special for Him.”
God gave us all gifts to serve, love, and give. What ones do you have? — Clay Taylor —
