Across Continents Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. —Philippians 1:3

When I heard my friend Caroline’s melodic voice and saw her face on my computer screen, I was as excited as a little child. It was our first Skype connection from my home in America to hers in Kenya. “I can feel your love—all the way here!” she said. Right away we talked about things that really count. “Faith is my theme this year. I want to trust God in everything.” I watched her lips move and love shine from her eyes. She poured out her challenges. “You have become my mentor. I can tell you anything,” Caroline commented. “And God drew us together in a remarkable friendship,” I added. I pondered my words. Caroline is thirty years younger than me, grew up in Africa, and met me on a plane nine years ago. When she studied in Denver, we visited by email, over the phone, and in person. When Caroline received her master’s degree, my husband and I went to all her events, joining some of her family. Remarkable, indeed.

No matter ages or backgrounds, God’s love woven into friendships can create something special. — Charlotte Adelsperger —
